New for 2013/14 - Raising of the Participation Age
Most 16 and 17 year olds already choose to carry on their education past Year 11. The Government has changed the law so that everyone will now have to carry on with some kind of education or training until their 18th birthday. This includes apprenticeships, so you can still employ 16 and 17 year olds and they can learn and earn with you and SS&L.

Grow Somerset Talent Campaign…
…number four is alive and kicking!
Grow Somerset Talent is the fourth in line of successful campaigns undertaken by Somerset Skills & Learning, five local colleges and one training provider, all supported by outside organisations, such as the National Apprenticeships Service (NAS) and local newspapers.
Previous campaigns, all lasting 100 days, have focused on securing apprentices into new employment opportunities. All campaigns have exceeded set targets and expectations.
In brief - the new campaign aims to promote and maximise the ‘AGE’ (Apprenticeship Grant for Employers). NAS will provide eligible employers, who have less then 1000 employees, is new to Apprenticeships or hasn't recruited an apprentice or existing employee onto an Apprenticeship in the last 12 months, a grant of £1500. Employers can be paid ten grants in total for the lifetime of the initiative.
Grow Somerset Talent aims to support local investment made into Somerset’s businesses through the 100 day challenge.
The campaign was launched by David Laws, Department for Education MP, Somerset Skills & Learning, local colleges and a training provider on Friday 5th September 2013.
