Getting hooked on fishing

Families in Bridgwater have been taking advantage of free coaching and tuition teaching them basic fishing skills.

The Family Learning scheme was held regularly on Saturday mornings at the YMCA in Bridgwater and then progressed to nearby ponds.

Participants were given fishing equipment and bait free of charge, and three dads who signed up relived a hobby they took up as children, while one mum has learnt enough about the sport she can now take her son fishing in the holidays.

Getting hooked on fishing

The family fishing course was also offered as a four day course in the June half term and was very well attended. One mum said that her sons didn’t want to attend but by the end of the session on the first day they didn’t want to leave and couldn’t wait to return the next day.
