Career advancement and travel abroad are two of the top reasons why British adults want to
learn a foreign language. A study by Hollywood’s celebrity language teacher, the late Michel Thomas, revealed that adults with foreign language skills are "richer, happier, and regarded as sexier than their fellow English-only speakers!"
On a more serious note, 20% of companies surveyed in the South West claimed to have
lost business due to language barriers. Somerset Skills & Learning offers language programmes in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek and Spanish, starting at beginners level and moving on to a further four year programme up to Advanced Conversation Level. In addition to our programme of accredited British Sign Language courses at Levels 1 and 2, we are able to offer shorter, bespoke units and courses to enable organisations and companies to raise their awareness of deaf issues.
