From the Community, For the Community
Somerset Skills & Learning are delighted to offer you a range of free educational and experiential solutions, designed to help everyone lean towards the green and support you in asking “What else can I do?”.
Their environmentally-focused teams have joined forces with a handful of inspirational Transition Town groups from around the county and have laced together ideas from some of the greatest green thinkers within our communities.
With the end of cheap oil and worries about climate change trapped under the media spotlight, it's no wonder so many of us still feel confused about the best way to start lightening our impact on the planet.
We need a helping hand, we need guidance, we need to take the 'freaky out of eco' and we need to act now!
But we also need to be driven by excitement, not fear.
Top Tips
Small and simple changes are easier to embrace and adopt into our busy lifestyles and with so many Transition Town taster events to get involved with in Bridgwater, Burnham, Williton, Ilminster, Wellington and Glastonbury in February and during the Celebration Event at Richard Huish College in Taunton in March you'll be spoilt for choice!
Meet the Change Makers
Local author of 10 Actions to Transform your Life, Bernard Genge starts the party with his 'Be The Change Symposium' at Bridgwater Arts Centre on Saturday 13th February.
Come along to one of the free evening workshops and film events during the week that follows and meet members of the Transition Town groups where you live. Their members are passionate about the positive changes we can have on our local and ultimately, our global environments.
You'll also have a chance to meet green visionary Tracey Smith, local author of The Book of Rubbish Ideas and an animated advocate for downshifting your pace, reducing your spending and finding realistic sustainable solutions for everyday life.
Meet the talented Somerset sculptor of the famous Willow Man located on the M5 near Bridgwater, Serena Del La Hey and work with her to create a large willow sculpture of the Sustainable Somerset logo, which will be duly exhibited in the county.
A Growing Focus on Glastonbury Abbey
Come and listen to the living history talks and tours around the beautiful Abbey and gardens that culminate in a herbal product making workshop and enrol on one of the medieval medicinal garden courses taking place in the weeks to follow.
